By now you probably know who I am, but if not I’d like to introduce myself as the President and CEO of Spectrum Premium Non-GMO Seed (read more about my background here). I’ve sat in a lot of different seats in my time in the agricultural industry, with the main one today being the chair in my office at the Spectrum headquarters. I also spent a fair amount of time in a seat at one of the largest agricultural companies in the world. But, the seats that you may not know about are those of the equipment on my farm.
I operate a grain farm in my hometown of Michigantown, IN, where I grow primarily corn and soybeans. For years, much like Scott Odle, my farm was planted primarily to fully traited varieties. As I began looking for opportunities for greater profit, I quickly discovered that the most significant impact to my bottom line was a switch to Non-GMO corn. Upon that discovery, I converted 100% of my acres to Non-GMO corn and haven’t looked back.
Genetic diversity has been a key component to the success on my farm, and in turn I’ve had hands-on experience with most of the hybrids in the Spectrum Non-GMO line-up. I would love nothing more than to talk with you about what has and hasn’t worked on my farm, even if it isn’t variety specific.
I’ve tried to take my experiences from farming, coupled with my experiences from many years in the seed industry, and combined apply those to the day to day operation of Spectrum Premium Non-GMO Seed. We maintain a farmer-first focus that allows you to obtain the most profit per acre, with an emphasis on sustainable practices. Since I’m pushing a pencil on a grain farm as well, I understand the importance of price, performance and value particularly when it comes to seed. We also place a huge emphasis on top-end yields, quality agronomic packages, and consistency year in and year out. These are what I expect out of the seed I plant on my farm, and that is what you should expect from us, too.
